Panos Panagiotopoulos was elected Member of Parliament (Nea Demokratia) for Athens B´ District in the general elections of 2000, 2004, 2007 and 2009. He was the party’s spokesman (2009-2011) and then responsible for Foreign Affairs (2011-2012).

Before becoming Minister of Culture and Sports in June 2013, Mr. Panagiotopoulos was Minister of Defence (2012-2013) and previously served as Minister of Employment and Social Protection (2004-2006).

For more than 11 years he was the creator, host and editing director of one of the most popular and successful programmes on Greek television, the political talk show “PROFILE”, on which he hosted eminent Greek and international politicians as well as international show business celebrities.

He held administrative posts for several years for various radio stations and television channels and was a founding member of the radio station “Radio 9,84 FM”.

He worked as a political editor and columnist for the newspapers “Kathimerini”, “Eleftheros Tipos”, “Apogevmatini”, “Vradini”, “To Vima” and for the magazines “Anti” and “Politika Themata”. He was special war correspondent during the Bosnia- Herzegovina and Kurdish wars. He is a member of the Athens Union of Daily Newspaper Journalists.

Practising his legal profession (criminal and corporate law) in his own law firm, he is also an active member of the Athens Bar Association.

He has been honoured with many awards and distinctions, including: the Greek Television Award (1992), the Botsis Foundation Award, the Greek Christian Letters Association Award and the honorary distinction of the Pan-Hellenic Military Reserve Officers Association.
